Digital Word Work: Suffixes Part 1- ed, ing, er, & est

Description

This digital word work suffixes focuses on adding -ed, -ing, -er, and -est to base words. Students will work with the rules for adding these suffixes in multiple different applications. There are 8 activities included that focus on phonemic awareness, which repeat 3 times for additional independent practice.

 

The 8 activities included are:

✨Identifying how the suffix changes the meaning of the base word

✨Word sorts based on the suffix

✨Creating new words by adding a suffix to a base word

✨Multiple Choice Test prep questions

✨Word sorts based on the spelling rule followed when adding a suffix

✨Identifying a suffix of a given word

✨Completing a table matching base words, suffixes, and the newly created word

✨Decodable stories using circles and lines to identify words in context.

 

These 8 activities appear in 3 different rounds for students to complete for ample opportunity to practice and apply the skill. Students can complete the activity all at once, or can complete 1 round on 3 different days. Each round focuses on a different rule about adding a suffix to a base word including:

• dropping the final e
• doubling a consonant when preceded by a short vowel
• changing a y to an i

This product will open as a PDF where you will see detailed instructions and access to a copy of the digital link that you will use to access the slides.  Next, a copy of the slides will appear in your Google Drive when you click ‘make a copy.’ From there, the resource can be shared in your google classroom with your students.
